You can apply a single device configuration to a set of devices by applying a device configuration. You can also create a device configuration from an existing device, and then apply that configuration to other devices.

This guide will teach you how to create and apply configuration templates.

Prerequisites

Create a device

In order to apply a configuration template to a device, you must first create it. For more information, see Create a device.

Apply tags to your devices

A configuration template is applied to a set of devices which share a set of tags. To apply the configuration template, you will be prompted to select a tag which identifies the set of devices to configure. For more information, see Configure access levels with tags.

Step 1: Create a configuration template

You can create a new configuration template, or turn an existing device's configuration into a template.

Create new template

1. In Formant, in the upper-left corner, open the menu and click Settings >> Config templates.
2. In the upper right corner, click Add Configuration.

Create from existing device

1. In Formant, in the upper-left corner, open the menu and click Settings >> Devices.
2. Next to the device you want to use as a template, click the three dots >> Save as configuration template.

Step 2: Select devices to configure

Under the Choose Devices tab, select a set of tags which represents the devices to which you will be able to apply this configuration template. All devices with at least one matching tag will be selected.

Selecting devices here will not immediately apply the configuration template to them. You will have a chance to review the set of devices in Step 4 before applying the template.

Step 3: Configure your template

Configuring your template offers the same options as configuring a single device. For more information, see Create a device.

Step 4: Apply your template

Once you've configured your template, you'll be shown the list of devices with matching tags from Step 2. Select the devices to which you want to apply this template, and click Apply.
